What is the most important thing I should know about Premarin?

• Warning: Estrogens have been reported to increase the risk of uterine (endometrial) cancer in postmenopausal women, especially in women with a uterus who are receiving estrogen-only hormone therapy.
• Estrogens may also increase the risk of ovarian and breast cancer.
• They should not be used to prevent heart disease.
• Estrogen hormone replacement therapy can cause heart attacks, strokes, serious blood clots, and breast cancer, especially if used for a long time or in high doses.
• It should be used for the shortest possible time and at the lowest effective dose to minimize the risks associated with long-term treatment.

What is Premarin?

Premarin is a medicine that containsfemale hormones (estrogens). It is usually given to women who no longer produce an adequate amount of these hormones. It is used to reduce the symptoms of menopause, such as vaginal dryness.

This medication is not effective in preventing or treating spontaneous or threatened miscarriage.

It should not be used during pregnancy, as it may cause birth defects or cancer later in the child’s life.

  • Excessive weight gain.
  • Porphyria (blood disorder).
  • Allergies.
  • Pregnancy or if you are breastfeeding.
