• It can make surgery unnecessary and can also be used as a preventative measure against prostate cancer.

What is Proscar?

Generic Proscar (Finasteride) is a medication used to treat benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH). It works by shrinking the enlarged prostate, which improves urinary flow and relieves symptoms such as difficulty starting to urinate, weak flow, and frequent or urgent need to urinate.

How should I take Proscar?

• Take generic Proscar (Finasteride) orally, once a day.
• This medicine can be taken with or without food.
• It should be taken for at least 6 months to ensure maximum results are achieved.

What happens if I forget to take a dose?

If you miss a dose of Generic Proscar (Finasteride), take the missed dose as soon as you remember. If it’s almost time for your next dose, wait until then to take the medicine and skip the missed dose. Do not double the dose to make up for a missed one.

What happens in case of an overdose?

• If you suspect you have taken too much of this medicine, you should contact your local poison control center and emergency medical services.
• An overdose of Generic Proscar (Finasteride) is not expected to be life-threatening.

What should I avoid while taking Proscar?

• Do not share this medicine with other people, as they may have a condition that is not adequately treated with Finasteride.

What are the possible side effects of Proscar?

Common side effects (usually temporary):

• Feeling like you might faint
• Swelling of the hands or feet
• Pain in the testicles
• ImImpotence, loss of interest in sex, or problems having an orgasm
• Abnormal ejaculation
• Breast swelling or tenderness
• Dizziness, weakness
• Headache

Serious side effects:

• Breast tumors
• Pain, nipple discharge
• Other changes in the breast

These may be signs of male breast cancer. Tell your doctor immediately.

Allergic reaction (seek emergency medical help):

• Urticaria
• Difficulty breathing
• Swelling of the face, lips, tongue, or throat
