Unlike other medications, Claritin is unlikely to cause dizziness or drowsiness.

Claritin is an antihistamine. Antihistamines prevent sneezing, runny nose, watery eyes, and other allergy symptoms.

Claritin is used to treat allergies, hives, and other inflammatory allergic conditions.

Claritin may also be used for other purposes listed in the medical guide.

Before taking Claritin, tell your doctor if you have had any of the following:
- Have you ever had an allergic reaction to an antihistamine?
- Kidney disease.
- Liver disease.
If you have any of the above conditions, you may not be able to take Claritin, or you may need to lower your dose or receive special monitoring during treatment.
The Alavert brand of Claritin disintegrating tablets contains 8.4 mg of phenylalanine per tablet. Patients with phenylketonuria should monitor their use of this medication.
Claritin is in FDA pregnancy category B: This means it is not expected to cause birth defects in unborn children.
Do not take this medicine without first consulting your doctor if you are pregnant or plan to become pregnant during treatment.
Claritin passes through breast milk and may be harmful to the baby. Do not take this medication without first consulting your doctor if you are breastfeeding.

Take Claritin exactly as prescribed by your doctor.
If you do not understand the instructions, contact your pharmacist, nurse, or doctor for clarification.
Take each dose with a full glass (8 ounces) of water.
Do not crush, chew, or break regular Claritin tablets. Swallow them whole.
Place Claritin Rapid Dissolving Tablets on your tongue and allow them to dissolve (Claritin Reditabs, Alavert). The tablet will disintegrate quickly; swallow it with or without water.
To ensure you take the exact dose, measure liquid medicine with a medicine-measuring spoon or cup, not a regular table spoon.
If you don’t have a dose-measuring device, ask your pharmacist for one.
Claritin is usually taken once a day. Follow your doctor’s instructions.
Never take more than the recommended dose.
